This was a brand-new tiled roof on a property in Frodsham in August 2025. The house has a hipped main roof, a chimney stack and a dormer window on one slope, and from the scaffold there is a view across to the wooded hillside.
The old roof was dark; the new one is in smooth red interlocking tiles, which changes the look of the whole house. Three photos show the build: the scaffold and deliveries, the tiling going on, and the finished hip.
Scaffold first
Before any tiles came off, the house was scaffolded, with boarded lifts and guard rails at eaves level.
A full scaffold on a job like this is not just about access. It gives a safe working platform all the way along the eaves, somewhere to stage tiles and fittings close to where they are needed, and a barrier so nothing falls to the ground while the old roof is being stripped.
Tiles, hips and finishing
The new tiles are a smooth, flat-faced interlocking tile in a red finish. They were laid in straight courses from the eaves up, working around the dormer. One photo, taken from the scaffold, shows the team on the boards alongside the dormer with tiles and fittings to hand.
The hips and ridge were finished with a dry fix system. Instead of bedding each hip tile on mortar, the tiles are mechanically fixed and linked with a clip at every joint, which you can see as black fixings climbing the hip in the last photo. With no mortar along the hips there is nothing to crack and wash out.
